Tricol Microfiber

What is Microfiber?

A “micro” fiber is yarn that is finer than natural fibers at about 1/20th the fineness of silk and nearly 1/200th of human hair.

Not your Ordinary Microfiber

A lot of microfiber in the marketplace is low quality 100% polyester. We differ from our competitor with our expansive bi-component microfiber which is made of 2 materials: polyester and polyamide. We call this our Intelligent Microfiber Collection. These Intelligent Microfibers offer superior handfeel and can deliver powerful functional performance like no other.

  • Polyester: great for scrubbing, electrostatic pick-up, does not absorb water
  • Polyamide: nylon-based compound that has high water absorbency and quick drying properties

Our Premium Quality

Tricol has a zero-tolerance policy for low quality microfiber, and every batch of our microfiber yarn is thoroughly inspected per our quality management systems and amazing team of quality assurance engineers. Tricol microfiber’s superior fineness results from the incredibly smooth surface of the fiber. This expanded surface area reduces friction, giving our microfiber its incredible wicking ability. The fineness of our microfiber is superior to natural fibers, which are rigid and easily degradable. Characteristics of microfiber include softness, durability, absorption, wicking, electrodynamic and particle filtering. We deliver only the highest quality microfibers for our customers.

Intelligent Microfiber

Taking this combination microfiber to the next level, we’ve built an assortment of functional add-ins to expand the performance properties of our yarns. Tricol is a leader in combination microfiber yarn spinning, offering high quality, innovative and sustainably-produced yarns for application in the apparel and home textile markets within our Intelligent Microfiber Collection. Below are a few examples of the functional yarns we have internally developed for the market.

The main function of cotton fiber is to absorb small amounts of dust and grease particles that eventually wipe off the remaining stain. Friction from cotton cleans stains by moving particles around the surface.

Combination microfiber has excellent absorption ability. The fibers absorb dust and grease particles, leaving a clean and dry surface. The microfiber is also easy to clean and dries quickly. It is a superior material to use for cleaning and performance-based products.

The Process

During spinning, these materials are conjugated to form silks. They are then spun into yarns containing 96 filaments of 150 Denier diameter (150D/96F) that arewoven into textiles. After weaving, the material undergoes a heat and texturizing process which splits the polyester and polyamide components fiber into 16 ultra-thin filaments. The final fibers have maximum surface area, an angular shape, and micropores between every fiber.

Powerful Dirt and Oil Pickup

When high quality microfiber is knitted together, it is a very powerful cleaning tool. Its fineness and maximized surface area allows it to clean down to the microscopic level, making it unnecessary to use harmful chemicals. Their angular shape lifts dirt from surface better than the rounded fibers of natural fibers. Microfibers have high absorbency for both water and oils so they clean effectively on even the toughest stains. Due to its synthetic materials, the material prevents the buildup of bacteria and other microbes.

High Water Absorbency
The fineness of microfibers allow them to be woven tightly together, creating a high number of micro-pores between each fiber which give microfiber cloths an absorbency seven times higher than cotton cloths. The polyamide core filaments are extremely hydrophilic and wick water quickly from the surface, while the polyester fibers give it a fast-drying ability.

Easy to Clean
Because dirts and oils are held in the micro-pores between microfibers, rather than absorbed into the fiber itself, as in the case of cotton and natural fibers, microfiber cloths are easy to clean by a simple flushing of water and soap.

Won't Lint
Microfiber filaments, unlike natural fibers, are extremely long and when woven into a textile, resist breakage. This prevents cloths from linting and degrading, even after many uses and washes. The non-lint feature also makes microfiber cloths excellent for wiping sensitive surfaces including lenses, glass, and screens, as they will not leave any dust or loose fibers on the surface.

Durable and Long-Life

Microfibers, due to their synthetic nature, are stronger and less prone to breaking than natural fibers. They will not undergo protein breakdown, or proteolysis like organic materials. Furthermore, they will not mold or mildew. Microfibers long outlast their organic counterparts and retain their shape and texture over long periods of time.

Applications

Microfibers have a wide variety of applications, from towels and home linens, cleaning surfaces and car detailing, to athletic apparel, and more.

Care

Microfiber textiles should only be washed in regular, non-oily and non-softening washing detergent. Fabric softener should not be used, as the oils in the softener will clog up the fibers and reduce their overall effectiveness until washed out. Can be cleaned in a washer and dryer. Avoid the application of high heat, as this may cause microfibers to scorch or melt.

Special Fabric Characteristics

Fabrics made with microfibers are extremely soft and retain their shape even after hundreds of washings. Microfiber fabrics are typically lightweight, resilient and wrinkle-resistant, with luxurious drape and body. They are stronger and more durable than other fabrics of similar weight. Because microfibers are so fine, many fibers can be packed together very tightly. The denseness allows materials to be wind resistant and water repellent, while allowing enough space between yarns to be breathable.
